City life can be hectic and often packed with socializing and work meetings. Some of us enjoy a night out for pure pleasure and others feel obliged to do it. We have all overindulged one way or another in having few too many drinks or a heavy meal.

Our bodies detox on daily basis, however an overloaded system with toxins and fatty foods, evokes sluggishness and slows down our performance.

If you spend a weekend eating and drinking I have few tips for you:

First and foremost, do not feel guilty about it, enjoy it, you probably need it.

Detox plan

Start your detox process on Sunday evening by drinking warm water and lemon, with turmeric and ginger before going to bed to bed to hydrate and to help your body flush out any toxin build up from the alcohol or fatty food consumed.

Have a light salad for dinner, which includes cucumber, celery, carrot and beetroot. Beetroot contains potassium, magnesium, iron, vitamins A, B6 and C, folic acid, carbohydrates, protein, antioxidants and soluble fiber. It does wonders for the skin with its antioxidant properties. It will nourish your body and give the glow you need to avoid waking up with puffy eyes on Monday morning.

Sweat it out

Choose a workout that is calorie crunching and targets endurance. This type of workout is high intensity and is extremely time saving.

Try plyos
Plyometric training

If you are heading to the gym on Monday, swap your hour-long cardio session on the treadmill to a plyo circuit

You can also add a 4-minute plyometric circuit to your Pilates session.

Choose 3 to 4 exercises that you can perform at intensity where you feel you are pushed out of your comfort zone.

Also known as “jump training” or “plyos”, are exercises based around having muscles exert maximum force in as short of a time as possible, with the goal of increasing both speed, power and fat burn. This type of training focuses on learning to move from a muscle extension to a contraction in a rapid or “explosive” way, for example jumping jacks, jump lunges, jump squats, mountain climbers & sprints.

Plyos will help you burn fat and lose weight as well and are a great habit to build into your workouts and will get you conditioned for whatever sports you do and improve your performance.

One of the most common areas to develop fat in the body, especially in women is the lower abdomen. This area gets bloated, saggy & accumulates fat as you age, have children or become inactive. However, numerous exercises can be performed to target the front lower abdomen, slim down the waistline and help you lose weight overall.

Keep in mind that as long as you do not make drinking and overindulging a weekly activity, it is ok to do it once in a while.
